I just read that only 5% of people set goals. While we all know that goals are necessary for our personal and business success. So why only 5%?
I think most of the 95% don’t have goals because they’ve forgotten how to dream since they came of age. And goals really come from our dreams. So no dreams = no goals.
The rest have tried to set the goals, sometimes several times, but each time it is not possible to achieve them. And, disappointed, they stop.
How many times have we made a New Year resolution that died a silent death sometime around Blue Monday??? 😉
But there is something that can help us to change this: setting a step-by-step plan of goals. You need to know what steps you are taking and in which order. That is the formula for success in achieving the goals.
And the good news is it’s not higher math. There are only 6 steps.
Step 1.Start with a dream.
“Nothing happens unless first we dream” Carl Sundberg.
And make it a beautiful big dream💥!
My coach says “big enough to get abdominal pain but just not for an ulcer” 😁. This dream should scare and excite you at the same time.Make it positive: not from lack or too short but from abundance. And fall in love with it❤.
Step 2. Make your dream SMART.
Specific, Measurable, Acceptable, Realistic, Time-bound.
They don’t say for nothing that a goal is a dream with a deadline. So put up a date: our minds will then work more focused, to find ways to meet the deadline.
I don’t know what date to choose? No problem. The “scientific method” of a wet finger works fine😉!
A little tip from Bill Gates “Most people overestimate what they can do in a year and underestimate what they can do in a decade.”
Step 3.Make a plan.
What do you have to do to achieve your goal?
Let your imagination run wild. Get out of the box. You can look at your own successful experiences, you can find out what your competitors are doing, you can take a (business) coach. But make sure you have a plan!
Step 4.Create an action plan!
A lot of goals are never achieved because we don’t know the difference between a plan and an action plan.
What kind of actions do you have to take every day, every week, every month to realize your plan? “Success-guaranteed” actions, “I-never-did-it-done” actions, “I-think-I-need-a-diaper-” actions and all the other actions you can think of😁.
Step 5.Take these actions!
Put them in your calendar and finish your calendar. No matter what!
Imperfect action beats perfectly inaction every time.
Harry S. Truman
Step five. Evaluate!
And not a few weeks before your deadline, you won’t have time to change or sharpen anything. Do it once a month, for example. Look at what you’ve done, at actions you’ve taken. Are they bringing you closer to your goal? Nice!
If the plan doesn’t work, change the plan, but never the goal. Adjust it and stay focused.
**************************************************************************
That’s all. You have followed these steps and congratulations: you have achieved your goal! You have, are or do something you dreamed of!
Easy, right? Well, not quite. But just like I said, no higher maths!
And there is only one way to find out if it works….
